Faced with the proposition of migrating hundreds of tables, views and stored procedures from one database to another, do you really want to hand craft schema and all the related SSIS data flows to pump data? This session will demonstrate techniques to leverage metadata to migrate tables, indexes, referential integrity, triggers, views, stored procedures and data; referencing a recent TAFE student system migration from Ingres to SQL Server as a case study. Also included are methods to optimise performance and post migration data audit reporting. Using SQL Server technologies such as Service Broker, CLR stored procedures, openrowset, for XML, BCP and copious amounts of SQL generation we will take a journey through repeatable, dynamic and ubiquitous techniques for data and database transpositions that can be applied to the majority of today’s data migration projects.
